TAMPAN Ogun State Applauds Crescent University for Sponsoring Historic Stage Drama “Asiri Ilu Egba”

The Ogun State Chapter of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) has commended Crescent University, Abeokuta, for sponsoring the outstanding stage production “Asiri Ilu Egba” in celebration of the university’s 20th anniversary.


In a statement signed by Chapter Governor Comrade Owolabi Yekuola Ajasa JP, TAMPAN praised the university’s leadership, including the Proprietor and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Prince Ma’ruf Adesegun Ajibola SAN; Vice Chancellor Prof. Gbajabiamila; and Registrar Barr. Zakariyya Ajibola, for their confidence in the project and generous financial support.


The association also recognized Dr. Kola Adesina, Head of the Mass Communication Department and chair of the 20th Anniversary Committee, for conceptualizing the idea and incorporating the epic stage drama into the anniversary celebrations.


“Asiri Ilu Egba”, a historical drama researched and narrated by Dr. Adesina, was skillfully scripted and directed by veteran filmmaker Yinka Saliu Kareem (Y.S. Kareem). The production captivated audiences with its rich storytelling and vivid portrayal of Egbaland’s heritage and historical evolution, earning repeated standing ovations.


Following the performance, Comrade Ajasa described the collaboration as “a landmark in the relationship between academia and the creative sector,” emphasizing the synergy between “town and gown.” He credited the success of the project to collective dedication, teamwork, and the university’s unwavering support.


Dr. Adesina also underscored the value of sustained partnerships between academic institutions and creative industry practitioners, highlighting how such collaborations mutually enrich both fields.


The production featured a star-studded cast and notable industry figures, including Pa Tubosun Odunsi, Pa Moses Omilani Egunleti, Alhaji Ebun Oloyede (Igwe Theatre), Hon. Gbenga Adebayo-Oladunni, Emir Kayode Akindina, Yeye Yetunde Kehinde-Aina, Prince Adeleke Adetutu, Rev. Adedegun Adesina, Prince Temilade Adelesi, Yeye Olaitan Ayopo, Prince Luqman Idowu Adeniji (Alwajud), Segun Ogungbe, Dare Agbejo, Mosun Adesanya, Yeye Funmi Sonola, Alhaja Yinka Adebanjo, Chief Funmi Soyewo, Amb. Olu Olowogemo Harejan, Amb. Abosede Aregbesola, Kofoworola Olusola, Enitan Eniafe, Idowu Adenekan, Gbenga Edun, Lekan Olatunji, Yemi Jimoh, Biola Adekunle, among others.


Otunba Dr. Bolaji Amusan (Mr. Latin), Global President of TAMPAN, lauded the Ogun State Chapter for maintaining the association’s standards of excellence and professionalism. He affirmed that initiatives like this would continue to highlight Nigeria’s theatre industry on the global stage.


TAMPAN Ogun State reiterated its commitment to fostering collaborations that promote education, culture, and artistic innovation within and beyond the state.
