The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board (OGMPWB) has announced Wednesday, January 28, 2026, as the final deadline for the payment of Hajj fares and completion of registration for the 2026 pilgrimage. In a statement by the Board’s Executive Secretary, Ajibola Taiwo, the total Hajj fare was fixed at Seven Million, Nine Hundred and Ninety-One Thousand, Five Hundred Naira (₦7,991,500).  He emphasised that the deadline is final and will be strictly enforced. Ajibola disclosed that registration processing for the 2026 Hajj is currently ongoing and will close on the same date of the final deadline, January 28, 2026. He gave the breakdown of the registration processing fees as follows: Application Form, ₦20,050; Screening Form, ₦2,550; Medical Fitness Certificate, ₦2,550; and Medical Screening, ₦20,050—bringing the total registration processing fee to ₦45,200.   Allstars Football Club Abeokuta, winners of the 2018 Ogun State Federation Cup, has extended condolences to the boxing champion, Anthony Joshua after a fatal accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway which claimed the lives of his coach Sina Ghami and personal trainer Kevin Latif Ayodele. The Chairman, Allstars Football Club Abeokuta, Alhaji Waheed Adeoye Lawal Stated this in a statement in Abeokuta. The club sympathized with Joshua, the families of the victims, the Ogun State government, National Sports Commission, and the public for their resilience and prompt response to the incident. "Almighty God is ever-knowing of all things" and thanked God for sparing Joshua's life.  The club prayed for his speedy recovery and the repose of the souls of the departed, wishing strength, mercy, and grace during this difficult period.

  The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, Ogun State Council, has appealed to Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun to consider paying an end-of-year bonus to pensioners in the state. In a letter jointly signed by the Chairman, Alhaji Waheed Oloyede and Secretary, Dr Bola Lawal, the union's leadership expressed gratitude for the early payment of December pensions, which enabled pensioners to celebrate Christmas. The union also appreciated the governor's decision to provide a bountiful end-of-year bonus to the state's workforce and requested that pensioners be included in the gesture. The union wished the governor a blessed and happy new year in advance.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has described festivals such as Remo Day as an avenue that provides  a pathway for indigenes to reconnect with  ancestral roots, invest in their homeland and transmit  their identity to future generations.   Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has concluded arrangements to ensure the safety of lives and property across major road corridors in the State in line with the Operation Zero Tolerance campaign against accident nationwide. The FRSC Sector commander, Mr Akinwunmi Fasakin said in a statement in Abeokuta that part of the arrangements included the deployment of 32 Patrol Vehicles, 6  Motor Bikes, 3 Ambulances and 2 Tow Trucks along major corridors within the state.   Mr Fasakin urged the motoring public to take responsibility for their Safety and avoid distraction while driving. Ogun State Government has launched a renewed enforcement drive at Kara market, insisting on compliance of traders and operators with the mandatory five meter setback along the length of the market corridor. The Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Hon. Tolu Poviwhede, who is also the new Chairman of the Taskforce on Environment said during the enforcement that the initiative was aimed at improving environmental safety, as well as reducing congestion particularly during this festive season. Babatunde Taofeek got both goals for the state owned football club in each of the match played at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena Kuto Abeokuta. Ogun State government has suspended three environmental consultancy firms for their professional negligence and culpability in the alleged acid battery pollution from the closed Used Lead Acid Battery ULAB Recycling companies in Ogijo area of the state. The Environmental Consultancy firms are Vyne Nurt Limited, Core Environmental Services Limited and Saag Chemicals Nigeria Limited. The Commissioner for Environment,Dr Ola Oresanya announced the suspension during a review meeting of the Process Audit of the closed companies at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Environment, State Secretariat, Oke mosan Abeokuta. Dr Oresanya explained that the three environmental consultancy firms, attached to the ULAB companies were found culpable during the audit process which confirmed that some of the pollution abatement devices that were supposed to be installed by these companies were not installed, thereby showing professional negligence. The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun I Area Command, has handed over seized illicit drugs to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Idiroko Special Area Command, in line with inter-agency protocols. The substances included 11 wraps of crystal meth (ice) weighing 12 kilograms, 16 pieces of heroin weighing 16 kilograms and 3,373 wraps of cannabis sativa in doughnut-size, coconut-size, and booklet-sizes, weighing 1,502 kilograms. Speaking during the handover at the Command's headquarters, Idiroko, the Customs Area Controller, Mr Oladapo Afeni described the seizure as a major step in saving lives and protecting communities, noting that cannabis remained the most abused illicit drug globally, with one in three users requiring treatment. Ahead of the festive season, the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has commenced a special intervention patrol with the use of Laser radar guns, to apprehend drivers for over speeding offence, in some major roads in the State. The Sector Commander of FRSC,  Commander  Akinwunmi Fasakin, accompanied by the Sector's Head of Operations, led the special intervention Patrol along Sagamu-Abeokuta road.   The Chief Judge of Ogun State, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu has called for intervention of government towards the expansion of the custodial centres in a bid to address the challenge of decongestion. Justice Dipeolu made the call while speaking with Journalists during her quarterly jail delivery exercise in Oba and Abeokuta Custodial centres. The Chief Judge who noted that that jail delivery exercises alone were insufficient to decongest the custodial centres, said there was the need for government to take concrete steps to address the issue.   The Football team of the College of Arts, Social and Management Sciences, CASMAS, will battle their counterpart from the College of Information and Communication Technology, CICOT, in the final of Dukeland Intercollegiate Football Competition. The Intercollegiate Football Competition was put together to mark the birthday of the wife of the founder of Crescent University Abeokuta. To get to the final, CASMAS defeated COES by four goals to one on penalties after the match had ended one goal apiece during the regulation in the first semi of the competition. CICOT on the other hand, beat BACOLAW by two goals to nothing in the second final. The final match between CASMAS and CICOT will come up on Monday 15th December at the school field beginning from 4:30pm. The tendering exercise, which took place at the Board’s headquarters in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, brought together contractors and bidders from all three senatorial Districts of the State.
