Governor Abiodun Highlights Remoland's Potential at Remo Day Festival




Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has described festivals such as Remo Day as an avenue that provides  a pathway for indigenes to reconnect with  ancestral roots, invest in their homeland and transmit  their identity to future generations.

Governor Dapo Abiodun stated this at the second edition of the Remo Day celebration  held at the Akarigbo Pavilion in Sagamu with the hemed “One People, Diverse Cultures, One Identity.”

Governor Abiodun further described Remoland as a land blessed with illustrious sons and daughters who have contributed immensely to the development of Ogun State and Nigeria at large,  noting that the massive turnout at the event underscored the unifying power of culture, warning that societies that lose touch with their roots risk losing their identity.




The Governor highlighted key infrastructural projects executed by his administration in Remoland, to include the Sagamu–Iperu–Ode–Sapaade Road,  adding that the international cargo operations would commence at the Gateway International Airport next month, a major developmental milestone that would transform logistics, generate thousands of jobs and position Remo as a leading agro-processing and export hub in West Africa.



Speaking with journalists, the State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi acknowledged  the steadfast commitment of  Prince Dapo Abiodun,  whose leadership has brought significant development to Remo Land and the State, through transformative investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and tourism, which is an  affirmation that the growth of Remo Land is fundamental to the advancement of Ogun State.

" Each performance and display of artistry, is a reminder that culture is not just heritage; it is also a powerful driver of tourism, investment, and community pride. The 2025 Remo Day can be described as a festival that continues to affirm the pride, unity, and cultural wealth of our people.

The theme of this year’s celebration  resonates deeply with the mission of our Ministry", Hon. Fagbayi  stressed.

Earlier, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, had said that the vision behind instituting the  Remo Day was to celebrate, preserve and project Remo culture to the global world , stressing that the Remo identity remains resilient and enduring.

While reaffirming Remo’s commitment to preserving its cultural heritage, Oba Ajayi said the people would continue to work with other stakeholders towards the actualisation of the proposed Ijebu-Remo State. 

He expressed appreciation to Governor Abiodun for partnering with Remo indigenes to construct the palace pavilion, which will serve as a venue for major cultural and civic events.



Speaking also at the event, Senate President,  Senator Godswill Akpabio  urged the  people of Remo Land to deepen unity and cooperation with their Ijebu kinsmen, stressing that peace, harmony, and shared commitments  are vital to realizing the creation of the proposed Ijebu-Remo State.

 The second Remo Day attracted dignitaries from across the country, featured colourful masquerade performances,  homage to the Akarigbo by various groups and the official opening of the Akarigbo Palace Pavilion.
