Team Ogun Wins Maiden Southwest U-20 Netball Championship in Abeokuta

  Team Ogun has emerged champion of the maiden five-day Under 20 Netball Championship held at the Handball Court of the Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja, Abeokuta, Ogun State. Team Ondo came second, while Fortune and Gateway finished third and fourth respectively. The championship, organised to promote grassroots sports development and expand the game of Netball across the Southwest, featured teams from different parts of the region. Speaking at the end of the event, the Acting Director of Sports, Mr Oluseyi Sonde, commended the sponsor of the championship, Mr Opeyemi Babalola, for his commitment to grassroots sports development. Ogun Muslim Pilgrims Board Begins 2027 Hajj Sensitisation in Remo

  Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced engagement with the League of Imams and Alfas in the Remo Zone as part of preparations for the registration of intending pilgrims for the 2027 Hajj. The engagement aimed at strengthening collaboration with Islamic leaders, is also designed to prepare Imams and Alfas for a sensitization campaign to be held in mosques across the zone. NSCDC Seeks Stronger Collaboration with Private Security Operators in Ogun

  The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Ogun State Command, has directed all licensed Private Guard Companies operating in the state to submit weekly security and intelligence reports through prescribed channels. The State Commandant, Mrs Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo, gave the directive in Abeokuta at a stakeholders’ engagement with private security operators. Mrs Remilekun explained that the move was in line with a directive from the NSCDC National Headquarters aimed at strengthening the early-warning mechanism and preventing emerging security threats from escalating. President Bola  Tinubu has approved the immediate reconstruction and dualisation of the 70-kilometre Abeokuta–Ibadan Road. He also flagged off the reconstruction and dualisation of the 58-kilometre Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode Road, describing both projects as critical to strengthening economic integration in the South-West. The President, represented at the flag-off ceremony in Ibadan by Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, said the Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode corridor was vital to the economies of Oyo, Ogun and Lagos States. He said the project would facilitate the movement of agricultural produce, raw materials and finished goods, while reducing travel time and transportation costs. NNL Unveils Eight Promoted Teams Ahead of 17th AGM in Owerri

The Nigeria National League, NNL, has unveiled eight clubs promoted from the Nationwide League One, NLO, ahead of its 17th Annual General Meeting scheduled to hold in Owerri, Imo State, on Friday. Ogun government Seals Quantum Packaging Over Illegal Dumpsite, Waste Burning

  Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Waste Management Authority, OGWAMA, has sealed Quantum Packaging Nigeria Limited, a paper processing company located along the Lusada-Igbesa Road in Agbara, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state. The company was sealed for allegedly operating an illegal dumpsite and engaging in open-air burning of waste, actions which contravene Section 2(b)(a) of the OGWAMA Law 2020 and the Ogun State Environmental and Public Health Law 2006.   Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency, OGEPA, has commenced an enforcement and assessment exercise at mining sites across the Ogun East Senatorial District to identify and address environmental and health risks arising from mining and industrial activities. The exercise is also aimed at examining operators’ environmental documents and assessing the impact of gaseous emissions, dust, smoke and other pollutants on workers, residents and the surrounding environment. The General Manager of OGEPA, Hon Kehinde Bello, said prolonged exposure to pollutants from mining, quarrying and blasting activities could pose serious respiratory health risks and negatively affect the environment. The Acting Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Olukayode Afeni, who announced this on Thursday during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Idiroko said the seizures followed intensified anti-smuggling operations carried out from June 24 to date. He listed the seized items to include foreign rice, basmati rice, cannabis, sugar, petroleum products, fertilizer, second-hand clothing, cosmetics, drinks, garments and other prohibited items. Mr Afeni described smuggling as economic sabotage, warning that the illegal trade undermines local industries, threatens food security and contributes to unemployment.
