Tinubu Approves Reconstruction of Abeokuta–Ibadan Road, Flags Off Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode Dualisation





President Bola  Tinubu has approved the immediate reconstruction and dualisation of the 70-kilometre Abeokuta–Ibadan Road.

He also flagged off the reconstruction and dualisation of the 58-kilometre Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode Road, describing both projects as critical to strengthening economic integration in the South-West.

The President, represented at the flag-off ceremony in Ibadan by Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, said the Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode corridor was vital to the economies of Oyo, Ogun and Lagos States.

He said the project would facilitate the movement of agricultural produce, raw materials and finished goods, while reducing travel time and transportation costs.

The President said the Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode Road would be constructed as a dual carriageway using reinforced concrete pavement to ensure durability.

He directed the contractor to mobilise fully to site and deliver the project within the stipulated period, while urging communities along the corridor to support the project.

The Minister of Works, Engineer Dave Umahi, disclosed that procurement for the Abeokuta–Ibadan dualisation was already underway.

He said the Federal Government was currently executing 47 major road projects across the South-West, with 17 of them located in Oyo State.

The Minister listed the Badagry–Sokoto Road, Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, Oyo–Ogbomoso Road and the resuscitated Oyo–Ibadan Road among other projects being undertaken by the Federal Government in the region.

Engineer Umahi said the contractor handling the Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode Road, JRB, had the capacity and equipment required to deliver the project.

Stakeholders at the ceremony, including lawmakers and traditional rulers, expressed support for the project, describing it as long overdue.

The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashid Ladoja, said the deplorable condition of the road had created economic and security challenges along the corridor.

He expressed optimism that the reconstruction would improve security, strengthen commerce and deepen the relationship between the people of Ibadan and Ijebu.

The Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode project was awarded on May 5, 2026, commenced on July 11 and is expected to be completed by June 10, 2029.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.
