Team Ogun Wins Maiden Southwest U-20 Netball Championship in Abeokuta

  Team Ogun has emerged champion of the maiden five-day Under 20 Netball Championship held at the Handball Court of the Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja, Abeokuta, Ogun State. Team Ondo came second, while Fortune and Gateway finished third and fourth respectively. The championship, organised to promote grassroots sports development and expand the game of Netball across the Southwest, featured teams from different parts of the region. Speaking at the end of the event, the Acting Director of Sports, Mr Oluseyi Sonde, commended the sponsor of the championship, Mr Opeyemi Babalola, for his commitment to grassroots sports development. Ogun Muslim Pilgrims Board Begins 2027 Hajj Sensitisation in Remo

  Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced engagement with the League of Imams and Alfas in the Remo Zone as part of preparations for the registration of intending pilgrims for the 2027 Hajj. The engagement aimed at strengthening collaboration with Islamic leaders, is also designed to prepare Imams and Alfas for a sensitization campaign to be held in mosques across the zone. The campaign will focus on educating intending pilgrims on the 2027 Hajj registration process, preparations for the pilgrimage and the need to obtain timely and accurate information from the appropriate authorities. NSCDC Seeks Stronger Collaboration with Private Security Operators in Ogun

  The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Ogun State Command, has directed all licensed Private Guard Companies operating in the state to submit weekly security and intelligence reports through prescribed channels. The State Commandant, Mrs Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo, gave the directive in Abeokuta at a stakeholders’ engagement with private security operators. Mrs Remilekun explained that the move was in line with a directive from the NSCDC National Headquarters aimed at strengthening the early-warning mechanism and preventing emerging security threats from escalating. She described private security operators as critical partners in the nation’s internal security architecture, noting that their presence in residential estates, industries, schools, communities and other strategic locations places them in a position to identify suspicious activities and provide useful information to security agencies. Ogun SWAN Urges Women to Prioritise Health

The Surveyors’ Wives Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Ogun State Chapter, has urged women to make their health a priority, stressing that a healthy woman is essential to a healthy family. The call was made at the 2026 SWAN Public Lecture held at the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, NIS, Multipurpose Hall in Abeokuta. Speaking at the event, the State Chairman of SWAN, Mrs. Oluwakemi Oluwafemi, said the lecture was organised to equip women with knowledge and practical solutions to improve their health and the wellbeing of their families. Ogun Govt Moves to Eliminate Sources of Lead Contamination in Ogijo

  The Ogun State Government has intensified efforts to rid Ogijo in Sagamu Local Government Area of lead contamination, with the ongoing evacuation of illegally dumped industrial slags from affected communities. The exercise, being carried out by the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency, OGEPA, commenced earlier in the week as part of government’s intervention to address environmental hazards associated with lead contamination and other harmful industrial materials in the area. The evacuation is aimed at removing potential sources of lead contamination and reducing the health and environmental risks posed to residents, workers and other stakeholders.
