Ogun Begins Medical Investigations into Welfare of Mistura Adebayo

The Ogun State Government has taken Mistura Adebayo, a young girl reportedly found wandering on two separate occasions, into its custody for medical assessment and further investigation into her welfare.
The Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development says the intervention is aimed at determining the girl's health status and identifying the appropriate care and support she requires.
In a statement signed by the Ministry's Permanent Secretary, Mrs Adebimpe Folusho Obienu, the intervention followed a report brought to the attention of the former Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon Adijat Adeleye, by Adetoun Adejobi.
The statement explains that Adeleye contacted the Permanent Secretary, who immediately deployed social workers to the police station where the girl had been taken.
However, on arrival, the social workers were informed that Mistura had already been released to her grandmother.
The Ministry says another report emerged the following day that the girl had been seen wandering again, prompting a fresh intervention that led to her being taken into government custody.
It adds that medical investigations are ongoing to determine her health condition and establish whether there are underlying concerns that require further attention.
The Ministry assures the public that necessary steps will be taken to safeguard the girl and provide a suitable and sustainable care arrangement in her best interests.
It also calls on residents to report cases of gender-based violence, child abuse, neglect, exploitation and other threats to the safety and welfare of women and children.
The Ministry provides the following toll-free contact numbers for reports and assistance: 0800 0000 666 for the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development; 0800 0000 555 for the Sagamu Sexual Assault Referral Centre; 0800 0000 077 for Ilaro; 0800 0000 088 for Ijebu-Ode; and 0800 0000 099 for Abeokuta.
The Ministry emphasises that prompt reporting of such cases is essential to protecting vulnerable persons and preventing avoidable harm.
