FG, UBEC, Ogun SUBEB Train Officers for National Learning Assessment

Aina Obasanjo  The Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, and the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, has trained education officers ahead of the National Learning Assessment in public primary and secondary schools across Ogun State. The training, held at the Nigeria Union of Teachers Hall in Kuto, Abeokuta, was  aimed at preparing officials for the nationwide assessment of learners' performance in line with the national curriculum. Crescent University Warns Admission Seekers Against Fraudsters

Aina Obasanjo  The management of Crescent University, Abeokuta, has warned parents and prospective students to beware of fraudsters posing as admission officers of the institution. In a statement by Principal Assistant Registrar, Public Relations, Idris Katib, the university said it has received reports of individuals defrauding unsuspecting admission seekers.  The institution specifically identified one Dr. Mrs. Faith, using the phone number 08169598464, as allegedly impersonating a member of the university's admission staff to scam prospective applicants. The university advised the public not to pay admission-related fees into any personal or private bank account.  It stressed that all payments should be made only into official bank accounts bearing the name of Crescent University, Abeokuta, as published on the university's official website and other publicity materials. Ogun Government Links Ijebu-Ode Gas Emission to Geological Activity

The Ogun State Government has attributed the recent gas emissions in Ijebu-Ode and surrounding communities to natural underground geological activities, dismissing claims that the phenomenon is linked to traditional myths or beliefs. Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Ola Oresanya, disclosed this at a stakeholders' town hall meeting held in Ijebu-Ode.  Dr Oresanya said scientific investigations identified the gases as methane and hydrogen sulphide, originating from underground fractures along the Ifewara–Zungeru fault line, which passes through parts of Ogun, Osun and Niger states. According to him, further studies are underway to determine the exact source of the gases and whether the area sits on commercially viable natural gas deposits. POCACOV Strengthens Anti-Cultism Awareness in Ogun Schools

The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices, POCACOV, Ogun State Command, has intensified its campaign against cultism, substance abuse, and other social vices through a youth leadership summit held in Ifo, Ogun State. Ogun Residents Commend Abiodun on Rural Road Infrastructure

No Cause for Panic, Ogun Police Assure Public After Sagamu–Benin Expressway Incident

The Ogun State Police Command has intensified security operations along the Sagamu–Benin Expressway following a reported security incident around the J3 axis of the highway on Thursday, June 25, 2026. The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Oluseyi Babaseyi in a statement in Abeokuta said operatives of the command responded promptly after receiving a distress call and immediately activated a coordinated security operation to restore normalcy and ensure public safety. Ex-Security Guard, Two Others Nabbed for Alleged Murder of Former Broadcaster in Ogun

  Aina Obasanjo  Operatives of Ogun State Police Command have arrested three suspects linked to the death of the former staff of Ogun State Television, OGTV,  Madam Kitan Oyesiku and her Security guard, Pelumi Adetayo over the weekend at her residence. Ogun Customs Generates ₦259.8m Revenue, Seizes Contraband Worth ₦4.63bn in Three Months

  The Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the collection of ₦259.78 million in revenue and the seizure of contraband goods with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦4.63 billion between April 1 and June 23, 2026. The Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, disclosed this on Wednesday during a press briefing held at the Command headquarters in Idiroko, Ogun State. Mr Afeni said the revenue was generated from baggage assessments, auction sales of perishable goods, Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) seizures, and other charges. According to him, the figure represents a 238 per cent increase compared to the ₦76.81 million collected during the same period in 2025. "The increase in revenue collection was made possible through the resilience of our officers and strict enforcement of import and export regulations in line with extant laws," he stated. Ogun Court Sentences Eight Waste Offenders to Community Service

  Ogun State Magistrate Court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, has sentenced eight persons to community service for indiscriminate waste disposal in parts of the state capital. The offenders were prosecuted by the Ogun State Waste Management Authority, OGWAMA, on a two-count charge bordering on illegal dumping of waste on public roads. The prosecutor, Kehinde Ogunsola who is the Medical Officer of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority, OGWAMA, Kehinde Ogunsola said the offenders were apprehended in  at Isale-Igbein, Car Wash and Abiola Way areas of Abeokuta while dumping refuse in public places. He noted that the offences were said to have constituted health and environmental hazards, including offensive odour, fly infestation, the risk of cholera outbreaks and flooding. Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting with the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Association of Primary School Teachers of Nigeria (APSTON) and Association of Primary School Headteachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON) at the Board’s Conference room in Abeokuta, Chairman of the Board, Evang. The outreach, held at the PSN Ogun State Secretariat, provided free medical consultations, screenings for malaria, typhoid, hepatitis, HIV/AIDS, blood pressure and blood sugar levels, as well as medication counselling and health education.
