Ogun State launches maiden Culture Quiz, Essay Competition for secondary school students



The Ogun State Government has taken a major step towards preserving and promoting the state's cultural heritage with the introduction of the maiden edition of the Culture Quiz and Essay Competition for secondary schools across the four divisions of the state.

Speaking at the closing ceremony held at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Kuto, Abeokuta, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi, said the initiative was aimed at preventing the rich cultural traditions of the state from going into extinction.

Hon Fagbayi noted that the competition provided a platform for young people to increase cultural awareness, become ambassadors of culture and embrace traditional practices beyond the event.





He expressed optimism that the programme would instill pride in the state's heritage and encourage continuous learning about cultural values for future generations.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Qudus Yusuff, said the competition would help discover, nurture and showcase the artistic talents of students across the state.

He commended participants for their commitment and assured them that winners would represent Ogun State at national cultural competitions.

In her welcome address, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mrs. Olubukola Samuels, said the competition was designed to strengthen cultural identity, promote traditional values and inspire pride in Ogun State's rich heritage.

At the end of the competition, students of Kobape Community High School, Oluseye Anuoluwapo and Adesina Oluwafunmilayo, emerged first and second respectively in the quiz category, while Oyekoya Temitayo of Ijebu-Ode Grammar School won the essay writing competition.

The event ended with the presentation of awards to outstanding participants, marking another milestone in Ogun State's cultural renaissance.
