NDLEA Calls for Public Support in Fight Against Drug Abuse, Trafficking

 





The Area Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Idiroko Special Area Command, Mr. Ekundayo Williams, has reaffirmed the strong collaboration between the NDLEA, the Nigeria Customs Service, and other security agencies in the fight against drug trafficking and cross-border crimes.


Speaking with DIGESTABLE Correspondent on the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Mr. Williams said the celebration highlights the importance of inter-agency cooperation in protecting Nigeria’s borders from criminal activities.


He noted that the NDLEA and its partners are working tirelessly to ensure that the nation’s borders are not used for the trafficking of illicit drugs and other trans-border crimes.


The NDLEA commander called on members of the public to support security agencies in the ongoing fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.


Also speaking, a Consultant at the Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, Dr Emmanuel Abayomi identified ignorance and stigmatisation as some of the problems affecting the fight against drug abuse in the society.


Dr Abayomi emphasised the need for relevant stakeholders to support various efforts of government to reduce the cases of substances abuse in the country especially among the youths.
