Ogun Tourism Ministry trains officers to boost internally generated revenue.

The Ogun State Ministry of Culture and Tourism has organised a capacity-building training for Tourism Officers in the Department of Hotels and Allied Businesses, aimed at improving internally generated revenue, IGR, in the state.

Speaking during the training held at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Qudus Yusuff, described the exercise as timely, noting the need for the tourism sector to enhance productivity, improve performance and contribute more significantly to government revenue.

Presenting a paper titled, Strategies to Improve IGR in the Department of Hotels and Allied Businesses, Dr. Yusuff highlighted key approaches including active and passive surveillance, regular monitoring and supervision, effective interpersonal communication, collaboration with professional bodies and trade associations, as well as partnerships with law enforcement agencies.

He charged officers of the department to develop practical and sustainable strategies capable of increasing revenue generation and ensuring continuous growth in the sector.

Also speaking, the Director of Administration and Supplies, Mrs. Oluwafunmilola Osibodu, delivered a presentation on Managing Conflicts and Disagreements in the Discharge of Professional Duties. 


She emphasised the importance of effective conflict management in maintaining workplace productivity, promoting teamwork and ensuring professionalism.

Mrs. Osibodu also advocated a human-centred approach to leadership, encouraging empathy, understanding and proactive problem-solving in handling workplace challenges.

Responding on behalf of participants, Mrs. Omolayo Solaja and Mr. Ibrahim Adetunji commended the Ministry for the initiative, describing the training as enlightening and beneficial, particularly in the areas of official documentation, client relationship management and conflict resolution.
