Ogun SWAN Urges Women to Prioritise Health



The Surveyors’ Wives Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Ogun State Chapter, has urged women to make their health a priority, stressing that a healthy woman is essential to a healthy family.

The call was made at the 2026 SWAN Public Lecture held at the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, NIS, Multipurpose Hall in Abeokuta.

Speaking at the event, the State Chairman of SWAN, Mrs. Oluwakemi Oluwafemi, said the lecture was organised to equip women with knowledge and practical solutions to improve their health and the wellbeing of their families.

She noted that women play significant roles in maintaining the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of their families.

The Ogun State Chairman of NIS and Special Guest of Honour, Surveyor Abiodun Liadi, described surveyors as partners in nation-building, saying their productivity is enhanced by the stability and peace of their homes.

Also speaking, the National President of SWAN, Alhaja Bilqis Lawal, said the public lecture is held biennially in Ogun and Lagos States, urging other state chapters to emulate the initiative.

The Chairman of the Association of Private Practising Surveyors of Nigeria, APPSN, Ogun State Branch, Surveyor Kayode Adekoya, advised the women to prioritise good health over wealth, noting that good health is vital for longevity and productive family life.

Delivering the lecture, the Chief Medical Director of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, OOUTH, Sagamu, Dr. Oluwabunmi Fatungase, described women as vital to family and societal stability.

Dr. Fatungase advised women to pay attention to their physical and emotional health by getting adequate rest, sleeping well and maintaining peace of mind.

She also urged them to undergo regular health checks, including breast examinations, blood pressure and blood sugar tests, as well as cervical cancer screening.

The OOUTH Chief Medical Director further encouraged the women to eat fresh fruits and reduce their consumption of preserved foods.

The event featured the presentation of awards to some members of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors for their contributions to SWAN, while Surveyor Oyebanji Akinhanmi was invested as Grand Patron and Surveyor Lawrence Ayanwale as Patron of the association.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.
