Ogun Govt Moves to Eliminate Sources of Lead Contamination in Ogijo

 




The Ogun State Government has intensified efforts to rid Ogijo in Sagamu Local Government Area of lead contamination, with the ongoing evacuation of illegally dumped industrial slags from affected communities.


The exercise, being carried out by the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency, OGEPA, commenced earlier in the week as part of government’s intervention to address environmental hazards associated with lead contamination and other harmful industrial materials in the area.


The evacuation is aimed at removing potential sources of lead contamination and reducing the health and environmental risks posed to residents, workers and other stakeholders.


Speaking during the exercise, the General Manager of OGEPA, Hon. Kehinde Bello, assured residents of the state government’s determination to achieve a comprehensive clean-up of the affected areas.


He said the agency would continue to deploy appropriate environmental management measures to tackle identified sources of contamination, stressing that the removal of illegally dumped slags was a critical component of the remediation process.


Hon. Bello appealed to residents and other stakeholders to cooperate with OGEPA officials and refrain from activities that could further contaminate the environment, particularly the indiscriminate disposal of industrial waste and slags.


The OGEPA boss reaffirmed the commitment of the Ogun State Government to sustaining the remediation exercise until the affected areas are adequately cleaned up.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.
