2027: Olaleye Tackles Osoba Over Alleged Neglect of Youth Sports Development
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Abeokuta North, Odeda and Obafemi Owode Federal Constituency, Arc. Oladele Olaleye, has reaffirmed his determination to prioritise youth-centred programmes, particularly through sports, if elected to represent the constituency in the House of Representatives.
Arc. Olaleye stated this in Abeokuta during the flag off of his campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections, highlighting the enormous potential of the vibrant youths across the constituency and the need for purposeful leadership that creates opportunities for them to develop their talents, build careers and contribute meaningfully to society.
The PDP candidate expressed concern that the constituency’s current representative in the House of Representatives, Hon. Olamide Osoba, who serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Sports has not utilised the strategic position to create meaningful sports-based empowerment opportunities for young people within the constituency.
According to Olaleye, sports should not be viewed merely as recreation or entertainment, but as a powerful tool for youth empowerment, employment, talent development, social inclusion and community transformation.
“Our youths are talented, energetic and full of potential. What they need is leadership that recognises these talents and creates the right platforms for them to thrive. Sports can provide a pathway to empowerment, employment and even international opportunities for our young people.”
He pledged that, if elected, he would work closely with relevant stakeholders, including sports associations, government agencies, private-sector organisations, community leaders and development partners, to establish and support programmes that would actively engage youths through sports.
Arc. Olaleye said his administration would pursue initiatives aimed at identifying and nurturing young talents, supporting grassroots sporting activities, promoting youth participation in competitive sports and creating opportunities for young people to acquire skills and build sustainable livelihoods around the sports industry.
He stressed that his vision for the constituency goes beyond political representation, noting that effective representation must translate into tangible opportunities and improved quality of life for the people, especially the younger generation.
“I am determined to provide purposeful representation that puts our people first. Our youths deserve opportunities, not empty promises. Together with relevant stakeholders, we will harness the power of sports to discover talents, empower young people and give them a greater stake in the future of our constituency.”
Arc. Olaleye called on the youths of Abeokuta North, Odeda and Obafemi Owode to remain hopeful and actively participate in initiatives that promote their development, assuring them that youth empowerment would remain a central pillar of his representation.
