Aina Obasanjo
The Door-to-Door Team Yayi has inaugurated 31,806 grassroots canvassers across Ogun State as part of efforts to mobilise voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The State Coordinator of the team, Hon. Niyi Opeibi, disclosed this at the inauguration of the canvassers held at the Ake Palace Pavilion in Abeokuta.
Hon. Opeibi said the mobilisation structure, which covers the 20 local government areas of the state, would take the campaign directly to households, communities, wards and streets.
He said the objective was to address voter apathy and communicate the programmes and achievements attributed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.
The State Coordinator urged the canvassers to engage different groups, including market women, farmers, artisans, youths, women, elderly people and community leaders, while listening to their concerns.
He also advised the mobilisers to conduct themselves with discipline, humility and integrity, warning against violence, confrontation, insults and the spread of false information.
Also speaking, a member of the initiative, Hon. Kayode Oladele, said the mobilisation was designed to support the re-election of President Tinubu and the emergence of Senator Olamilekan Adeola as Governor of Ogun State.
Mr Oladele identified voter apathy as a major challenge, noting that voter participation in previous elections was significantly lower than the estimated number of eligible voters in the state.
He said the team would take its message to communities and households in a bid to encourage eligible voters to participate in the electoral process.
one of the promoters of the initiative, Princess Ebunlomo Aderemi Arajunla, said youths would play a central role in the door-to-door campaign.
She said the initiative would also provide young people with opportunities to participate in political activities and governance.
Princess Arajunla said the team was targeting a significant increase in the APC's vote in the state in the 2027 elections.
Meanwhile, the Director of Media of the Door-to-Door Team Yayi, Comrade Adeleke Akanbi, said the grassroots mobilisers had been mandated to reach households and other community gathering points, including religious centres.
He expressed confidence that the strategy would generate increased support for Senator Olamilekan Adeola, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
