Ogun government Seals Quantum Packaging Over Illegal Dumpsite, Waste Burning

The Ogun State Waste Management Authority, OGWAMA, has sealed Quantum Packaging Nigeria Limited, a paper processing company located along the Lusada-Igbesa Road in Agbara, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.



The company was sealed for allegedly operating an illegal dumpsite and engaging in open-air burning of waste, actions which contravene Section 2(b)(a) of the OGWAMA Law 2020 and the Ogun State Environmental and Public Health Law 2006.



Speaking after the exercise, the Special Adviser to the Governor and Managing Director of OGWAMA, Hon. Farouk Akintunde, said the company was discovered to have continued with improper waste disposal despite an earlier warning by the authority.





Hon. Akintunde explained that the company was initially observed dumping waste indiscriminately within its premises instead of engaging government-accredited waste collectors for proper disposal.



He said subsequent surveillance by OGWAMA revealed a large illegal dumpsite near the company's facility, where wastes were allegedly being burnt.



The OGWAMA boss said the government had no option but to shut the company in order to protect the environment and safeguard the health of residents.



He stressed that open-air waste burning poses serious risks to public health and the environment, adding that the state government would not allow any company to operate in Ogun while degrading the environment.



Hon. Akintunde said Quantum Packaging Nigeria Limited would remain sealed until the illegal dumpsite is shut down and a comprehensive remediation plan is implemented to clear the accumulated waste.


He reiterated the state government's commitment to enforcing environmental regulations while maintaining a business-friendly environment for companies operating legally in Ogun State.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.
