Akure Hosts 12 Teams Southwest 3x3 Basketball Championship

The city of Akure, Ondo State, is set to witness thrilling basketball action as no fewer than 12 teams battle for honours at the competition tagged "Asiwaju Renewed Hope Southwest 3x3 Basketball Championship".
The two-day tournament, organised by the Southwest Basketball Association of Nigeria, promises an exciting blend of sports, entertainment, and youth engagement as top teams from across the Southwest converge on Democracy Park, Oja Oba.
Speaking at a press conference, the Technical Director of the competition and an official of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Mr. Olusheye Adebowale, said Akure was chosen as the host city because of its growing passion for sports and basketball development.
He explained that Democracy Park, situated in the heart of Oja Oba, provides an open and vibrant atmosphere that brings the game closer to the people.
According to Mr. Adebowale, the championship is designed to strengthen community engagement through basketball, describing Akure as the ideal environment to achieve that objective.
The competition will feature 12 teams drawn from the six Southwest states Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, and host state Ondo with expectations of a strong turnout of talented players, coaches, fans, and special guests from across the region.
Outstanding teams and participants will be rewarded with cash prizes, medals, and trophies at the end of the tournament.
The championship is scheduled to hold from May 16 to 17, 2026, at Democracy Park, Oja Oba, Akure.
