CAF to Draw 48 Nations Into Groups for AFCON 2027 Qualifiers

The Confederation of African Football will on Tuesday conduct the qualifying draw for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, marking the beginning of the road to Africa’s biggest football tournament.

The competition will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, the first time in history that three countries will co-host the tournament.

According to CAF, the draw will take place on Tuesday in Cairo, Egypt, where 48 nations will discover their qualification groups for the tournament scheduled to hold from June nineteenth to July seventeenth, twenty twenty-seven.

CAF says the tournament, tagged “AFCON PAMOJA 2027,” will also mark the return of the Nations Cup to East Africa for the first time since Ethiopia hosted the competition in nineteen seventy-six.

The 48 teams will be divided into 12 groups of four, with the top two teams from each group qualifying automatically for the finals. However, hosts Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda have already secured qualification, meaning only one additional team will advance from each of their groups.

Qualification matches will be played between September twenty twenty-six and March twenty twenty-seven across three FIFA international windows.

CAF adds that AFCON 2027 is expected to boost infrastructure, tourism and regional cooperation in East Africa, while showcasing the region’s culture and passion for football to the world.
