Federal Government to Upgrade Historic Muda Lawal Stadium

The Federal Government has approved the revamping of the Muda Lawal Stadium in Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of efforts to upgrade sports infrastructure across Nigeria.

The Director General, National Sports Commission, NSC, Chief Bukola Olopade said in a statement that the project was aimed at honouring late Nigerian football legend, Mudashiru Babatunde Lawal, who remains one of the country’s greatest football heroes.

Chief Olopade described the development as a fitting tribute to Muda Lawal’s contribution to Nigerian football and national sports development.

According to him, the upgraded stadium will boost grassroots sports and provide modern facilities for national and regional competitions.






He noted that the renovation would include the installation of new tartan tracks and rehabilitation of key facilities within the complex to meet modern sporting standards.

Muda Lawal, an indigene of Abeokuta, played a major role in Nigeria’s 1980 Africa Cup of Nations victory and was also instrumental in Shooting Stars’ historic African Cup Winners Cup triumph in 1976.
