JAMB to introduce “Bring Your Own Device” option for UTME by 2027

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, says candidates sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, may begin using their personal computers for the examination from 2027.

JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, announced this during the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions held in Abuja.

According to him, the new initiative, known as “Bring Your Own Device,” will allow candidates to take the examination on their laptops or other personal devices.

Professor Oloyede explained that a special flash drive would be inserted into the devices during the examination to prevent malpractice and ensure the integrity of the process.

He added that the initiative is expected to reduce technical challenges often experienced during examinations, including complaints of computer shutdowns at examination centres.

The JAMB Registrar also said the new method would be easier to manage, more convenient for candidates, and cheaper to implement.

He further disclosed that additional innovations would be introduced before 2027 to ensure a smoother examination process.

The National Sports Commission, NSC, has commended the Nigeria Aquatics Federation and Team Nigeria athletes for their impressive outing at the 17th Africa Aquatics Championships held in Oran, Algeria.

Team Nigeria finished the competition with three bronze medals and several outstanding performances during the championship which lasted from May fifth to tenth, twenty twenty-six.

NSC Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, praised the athletes, coaches, and officials for making the country proud on the continental stage.

Hon. Olopade described the performance as a clear sign that Nigerian sports is making progress across different disciplines.

He also applauded the Nigeria Aquatics Federation and all stakeholders for their commitment and contribution to the success recorded at the championships.

The NSC further noted that beyond the medals won, Nigeria’s recognition as one of the fastest developing nations in African aquatics highlights the country’s growing strength in the sport.
