NFF pledges full support for UNICEF child-development initiatives

The Nigeria Football Federation and the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, have begun discussions on a partnership aimed at promoting child welfare in Nigeria.


The proposed collaboration will focus on campaigns for polio eradication, protection of the girl-child, and the fight against child molestation.


Speaking during a meeting at the NFF Secretariat in Abuja, UNICEF Chief of Communication, Advocacy and Partnership, Lone Hvass, said the organisation plans to engage Super Falcons players to help raise awareness on issues affecting children.

Hvass noted that football stars are powerful role models whose voices can influence families and young people positively.

In a remark, NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, welcomed the initiative and pledged the federation’s support for campaigns aimed at protecting children from polio and other diseases.

Dr Sanusi added that football remains a strong tool for social enlightenment and revealed that players from Nigeria’s under-17 and under-20 women’s national teams may also participate in the campaigns.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.
