NSC Moves to Revamp Muda Lawal Stadium, Earns SWAN Commendation

Ogun State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, has commended the National Sports Commission, NSC, for its decision to revamp the historic Muda Lawal Stadium in Asero, Abeokuta.

In a statement, the Chairman of Ogun SWAN, Comrade Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji, described the planned renovation as a timely intervention that will restore the stadium's status as one of Nigeria's leading sports facilities.

Ogunsiji noted that the stadium has played a significant role in nurturing talented athletes and footballers while contributing to sports development in Ogun State and across the country.

He said the Commission's decision reflects its commitment to grassroots sports development, youth engagement, and the rehabilitation of sports infrastructure nationwide.

The SWAN chairman expressed confidence that the upgraded facility would attract more local and national sporting events to Abeokuta, boost economic activities, and create opportunities for young people.

He also urged relevant stakeholders to ensure the project is executed and completed promptly in line with international standards.

Ogunsiji reaffirmed the association's support for initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable growth and excellence in Nigerian sports.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.
