Ojude Oba Festival Drives Unity, Tourism and Economic Growth — Fagbayi

Ogun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi, says cultural festivals such as the Ojude Oba Festival provide an important platform for unity, economic growth and the preservation of cultural heritage.

Speaking with journalists at the 2026 Ojude Oba Festival themed “Celebrating the Legacy of Oba Sikiru Adetona,” Hon. Fagbayi noted that the annual event encourages indigenes in the diaspora to reconnect with their roots, invest in their homeland and pass on their cultural identity to future generations.

According to Hon. Fagbayi, the globally acclaimed festival has become a rallying point for sons and daughters of Ijebuland, fostering stronger communal ties and attracting visitors from across Nigeria and beyond.

The Commissioner described Ojude Oba as one of the world's leading cultural festivals, adding that the influx of tourists boosted patronage for hotels, businesses and local traders during the celebration.

Hon Fagbayi said the Ogun State Government plans to further leverage the festival as a catalyst for economic development, tourism growth and international cultural diplomacy. 

He assured that the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun will continue to support the annual event.

The Commissioner also commended the organisers for delivering a more vibrant and inclusive festival this year, noting that the Ministry's involvement in the planning process strengthened collaboration and contributed to the event's success.

Meanwhile, a tourist from the United States, Mr. Julius Adam, expressed excitement after attending the festival. 

He said he travelled to Nigeria specifically to witness the colourful celebration after following reports of the event on social media. 

Mr Adam praised the rich display of fashion and horse-riding traditions and disclosed plans to visit other tourist attractions in Ogun State before returning home.
