Ogun Communities Decry Neglect, Demand Better Roads, Healthcare Facilities

Residents of communities in Oluwo, Abata and Ayilara areas of Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State have renewed their appeal to government authorities to urgently rehabilitate the road linking Madojutimi to Ilugun through the Professor Wole Soyinka access route.

The residents also called on relevant stakeholders to facilitate the completion of the only health centre serving the area to improve access to primary healthcare services.

DIGESTABLE correspondent who visited the communities, reports that the deplorable condition of the road has continued to make movement difficult for residents and visitors.

A journey that should ordinarily take only a few minutes lasted about thirty minutes due to the poor state of the road, which serves as the only major access route to over thirty-eight communities in the area.

Speaking with DIGESTABLE, the Chairman of Araromi-Oluwo Community Development Association, Mr. Ajani Labulo, lamented that despite more than two decades of settlement and repeated appeals to government, the road remains in a deplorable condition, especially during the rainy season.




Mr. Labulo explained that residents had resorted to self-help efforts, including filling potholes and carrying out temporary repairs to make the road passable.

He noted that the situation had negatively affected socio-economic activities and the education of children who struggle daily to access a nearby public primary school.

Also speaking, a lecturer at a private tertiary institution in Abeokuta, Mrs. Modupe Apanisile, described the condition of the road as unbearable and called for urgent government intervention.

Mrs. Apanisile said many residents were compelled to park their vehicles far from their homes and trek long distances because of the poor road network.

Another resident, Mr. Sobitan Adebayo, expressed concern over the impact of the road condition on school children, noting that many pupils are often unable to attend classes whenever it rains.

Other residents, including Mr. Ayinla Adeniyi, appealed to the relevant authorities to urgently rehabilitate the road to improve transportation, enhance access to schools and healthcare facilities, and boost socio-economic activities in the communities.
