Ogun Workers Protest Oyo School Abductions, Demand Immediate Release of Victims

Workers under the Nigeria Labour Congress, the Nigeria Union of Teachers and various civil society groups have staged a protest in Abeokuta, Ogun State, demanding the immediate and unconditional release of teachers and pupils abducted in Oyo State.


The protesters marched through major roads in the state capital carrying placards with messages calling for the release of the victims and an end to attacks on schools across the country.


Speaking during the protest, the National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Comrade Titus Amba, represented by the union's National Vice President, Comrade Titilope Adebanjo, said recurring attacks on schools were creating fear among teachers, pupils and parents, while threatening the future of education in Nigeria.


The Ogun State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Hameed Benco, described the demonstration as a strong message to the Federal Government, urging swift action to secure the release of the abducted victims and prevent future incidents.


Also, the Ogun State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Comrade Sewakanu Oladipupo, called for improved security in schools nationwide, while the National Chairman of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, Comrade Yinka Folarin, appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the victims.


The protest followed the abduction of thirty-nine pupils and seven teachers from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State about two weeks ago.
