10 Killed in Ogun Road Crash on Ibadan–Lagos Expressway

Ten people have been confirmed dead in a fatal road traffic crash at Sapade Bridge along the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway in Ogun State.


In a statement by the Public Education Officer, Ogun Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Afolabi Odunsi said the crash involved a  truck and a Toyota Hiace bus.


Mr Odunsi explained that a total of 18 people were involved in the crash,Ten persons, comprising nine adult males and one male child, died while six others sustained injuries and two adult males escaped unhurt.


The FRSC attributed the crash to speed violation, wrongful overtaking and dangerous driving,adding that the truck driver reportedly reversed on the highway after missing his route and the bus rammed into it.


He said the injured were taken to a hospital for treatment while the deceased were deposited at a  morgue in Ipara while the crashed vehicles were handed over to the Police at Ishara Division. 


While Commiserating with the families of the victims, The Sector Commander, Mr Oludare Ogunjobi warned motorists against reversing on highways, speeding and other traffic violations.


The command urged road users to obey traffic rules, maintain safe speeds and use designated turning points to prevent avoidable crashes.
