Abeokuta Reps Race: PDP Candidate Olaleye Seeks Support, Challenges Incumbent to Public Debate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the House of Representatives, Abeokuta North, Odeda and Obafemi Owode Federal Constituency, Arc. Oladele AbdulQuadri Olaleye, has urged eligible voters across the constituency to actively participate in the democratic process by voting for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming election.


Speaking during an interview in Abeokuta on the theme, "Deepening Democratic Participation and Grassroots Development,"  Arc. Olaleye stressed that democracy can only thrive when citizens exercise their civic responsibility by voting for credible and competent leaders who are committed to the welfare of the people.


He expressed concern over the growing rate of unemployment and poverty in the country, describing the situation as alarming. 

The PDP House of representatives candidate noted that the harsh economic realities have made many voters susceptible to inducement during elections, a trend he said poses a serious threat to democracy.


Arc. Olaleye appealed to the electorate not to mortgage their future for temporary financial gains, urging them instead to vote based on competence, integrity and the capacity of candidates to deliver quality representation.

The PDP standard-bearer also challenged the incumbent lawmaker representing the Abeokuta North, Odeda and Obafemi Owode Federal Constituency, Hon Olumide Osoba to a public debate, saying such an engagement would provide an opportunity for both candidates to present their achievements, ideas and plans to the electorate.


He maintained that issue-based campaigns and open debates are essential ingredients of a healthy democracy, as they enable voters to make informed decisions rather than relying on political propaganda.


Arc. Olaleye pledged that if elected into the House of Representatives, he would sponsor and support people-oriented bills aimed at improving the living conditions of Nigerians. 

He noted that one of his major legislative priorities would be initiating laws that would strengthen the nation's power sector, improve electricity supply and create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

Arc. Olaleye explained that improved electricity would reduce the cost of doing business, encourage industrial growth, attract investment and create employment opportunities for thousands of youths across the constituency and the country at large.

The PDP candidate reaffirmed his commitment to effective representation, grassroots development and responsive legislation, assuring constituents that he would remain accessible and accountable to the people if given the mandate to serve.


He therefore called on residents of Abeokuta North, Odeda and Obafemi Owode Federal Constituency to support the PDP at the polls, expressing confidence that collective participation in the electoral process would usher in purposeful leadership and sustainable development.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.
