AFENI Cup 2026 Kicks Off to Empower Students, Tackle Border Smuggling

The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun One Area Command, has launched the AFENI Cup Twenty-Twenty-Six, an inter-secondary school football competition aimed at discouraging youth involvement in border smuggling and promoting positive development through sports.


The tournament, organised in partnership with Jonnyyeko College of Health Science and Technology as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, attracted twelve secondary school teams from across the local government area.

Speaking at the opening ceremony in Idiroko, the Acting Customs Area Controller, Mr  Oladapo Afeni, explained that the competition was designed to provide students with opportunities beyond illegal border activities. 





Mr Afeni expressed optimism that the tournament would also help nurture young football talents, teach discipline and teamwork, and encourage students to pursue legitimate careers.







Education stakeholders, youth groups and community described the initiative  as a timely effort to keep young people engaged in productive activities.

The competition began on Sunday, July thirteenth, at Iko Gate Grammar School, Idiroko, and will end with a grand finale on July twenty-fourth. 

Winners and outstanding players will receive cash prizes and educational materials.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.

Speakers celebrate Prince Bola Ajibola's contributions to education, literature

  The Crescent Literary Village of Crescent University, Abeokuta, has celebrated the enduring legacies of the institution's late founder, Prince Bola Ajibola, for his remarkable contributions to education, law, arbitration, literature and humanity.
