NCAA, NSIB to Establish Joint Family Assistance Working Group

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) have agreed to establish a Joint Family Assistance Working Group to strengthen support for families affected by aviation accidents.

The decision was reached during a working visit by the NSIB Family Assistance team, led by the Director of Consumer Protection and Public Affairs, Mrs. Funke Adebayo-Arowojobe, to the NCAA headquarters in Abuja.

The two agencies also agreed to set up a dedicated task force to define their respective roles, responsibilities and coordination mechanisms for the implementation of a comprehensive Aviation Disaster Victims' Family Assistance Programme in line with international standards and recommended practices.

Welcoming the delegation, the NCAA Director of Consumer Protection and Public Affairs, Mr. Michael Achimugu, described the engagement as a major step towards institutionalising a seamless National Family Assistance Programme. 


He expressed optimism that the meeting would provide the framework needed to accelerate the programme's implementation.

The meeting also identified key areas for enhanced collaboration, including the harmonisation of policies and regulatory frameworks, improved information-sharing, expanded training and capacity-building, as well as wider engagement with aviation industry stakeholders.

Responding on behalf of the NSIB, Mrs. Funke Adebayo-Arowojobe appreciated the NCAA for hosting the meeting and commended the Authority's continued commitment to improving aviation safety in Nigeria.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.
