NFF Executive Committee Unveils Key Decisions to Strengthen Nigerian Football




The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Executive Committee has reaffirmed its commitment to the development of football across the country, unveiling a number of resolutions aimed at strengthening the domestic game and improving the fortunes of the national teams.

The decisions were reached at the committee's meeting held at the Best Western Plus Hotel in Asaba, Delta State.

The committee commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting Nigeria's successful bid to host the 2026 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Ordinary General Congress and the CAF Awards Ceremony. 


It also appreciated CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, and the continental football body for entrusting Nigeria with the two prestigious events.

The NFF also expressed gratitude to the Federal Government, through the National Sports Commission, for providing a special intervention fund to boost the Nigeria Premier Football League. 


The committee appealed for similar financial support to be extended to the Nigeria Women Football League, the Nigeria National League and the Nationwide League One to further strengthen football development.

The committee welcomed the National Sports Commission's pledge to support the strict enforcement of club licensing regulations, describing the move as a major step towards improving professionalism in Nigerian football.

It also appreciated the Delta State Government for hosting the 2026 President Federation Cup final and commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the warm hospitality extended to participating teams and football stakeholders.

On the national teams, the Executive Committee charged the Super Falcons to retain the Women's Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco and secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil.

The Falconets were equally urged to aim for history by becoming the first Nigerian team to win the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup when the tournament takes place in Poland later this year. 


The Executive Committee further welcomed Nigeria's restoration to the CAF A-License Coaching Convention and encouraged coaches across the country to take advantage of coaching education programmes to improve their technical knowledge.

As part of efforts to expand football development, the committee approved the establishment of an interim Beach Soccer and Futsal Board. The board will be chaired by Mahmud Hadejia and is expected to oversee the organisation and development of Beach Soccer and Futsal leagues nationwide.

The meeting was chaired by NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau and attended by members of the Executive Committee and the Federation's General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.
