Nigeria Customs Dismisses Smuggling Claims on Ogun Atan Road

The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun One Area Command, has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that smugglers blocked the Atan Road in Ogun State, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Customs Chado Zakari, on behalf of the Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Oladapo Afeni, the Command explained that the traffic congestion was caused by a road accident.

According to the statement, a commercial trailer conveying goods overturned at a badly damaged section of the Atan Road, leading to a major gridlock.

The Command clarified that the trucks caught in the traffic were legitimately transporting red palm oil to different local markets and were mistakenly identified by some members of the public as vehicles belonging to smugglers.

The Ogun One Area Command urged the public and media organisations to verify information before sharing reports capable of causing unnecessary panic and misinformation.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to combating smuggling and encouraged citizens to rely on information released through official channels.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.
