OGEPA Seeks Stronger Partnership with Industries on Sustainability

The Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency, OGEPA, has called on industries operating across the state to strengthen compliance with environmental regulations, improve corporate social responsibility programmes and adopt sustainable environmental practices.

The Agency's General Manager, Hon. Kehinde Bello, made the call during a familiarisation tour of industries in Ogun Central, Ogun West and Ogun East Senatorial Districts.

According to Hon. Bello, the visit was aimed at assessing the level of environmental compliance by industries and strengthening collaboration between OGEPA and the private sector in protecting the environment.

He urged companies to organise regular environmental training for their staff to enhance their knowledge and promote global best practices in environmental management.






The OGEPA boss also encouraged industries to partner with the Ogun State Government on tree-planting initiatives to combat global warming, reduce the effects of climate change and promote environmental sustainability.

Hon. Bello further directed companies to ensure proper management of hazardous waste and spent oil by maintaining accurate records and engaging only approved waste handlers.

He also stressed the need for functional Effluent Treatment Plants to prevent the discharge of untreated wastewater into the environment.

The OGEPA boss advised industries to strengthen their corporate social responsibility programmes by implementing projects that would benefit their host communities and improve chemical management by obtaining the necessary permits from the Agency.

Also speaking, OGEPA's Director of Inspectorate and Compliance, Mr. Babatunde Bolarinwa, highlighted key environmental permits required for industrial operations, including Chemical Storage Permits, Effluent Discharge Permits and Environmental Audit Approvals.

Responding on behalf of the companies visited, Associate Director of Fidson Healthcare Plc, Mrs. Mark Tijani, commended OGEPA for the initiative, describing it as a step towards strengthening collaboration between government and industries in promoting environmental compliance and sustainable development in Ogun State.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.
