Ogun Government, IFAD Empower Farmer Groups with 16 Tricycles

The Ogun State Government, through the International Fund for Agricultural Development-assisted Value Chain Development Programme, has distributed sixteen tricycles to sixteen farmer groups across the eight participating local government areas of the state.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Bolu Owotomo, said the intervention was s designed to ease the transportation of agricultural produce, reduce logistics costs and improve productivity among farmers.


Hon. Owotomo noted that the Value Chain Development Programme has continued to support farmers with initiatives aimed at boosting food security, increasing agricultural output and improving livelihoods.




He urged beneficiaries to use the tricycles strictly for agricultural activities, warning against their sale or diversion to commercial purposes unrelated to farming. 

The Commissioner stressed that proper maintenance would ensure the vehicles serve the intended purpose for a long time.


He also highlighted other agricultural programmes of the state government, including the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones, OG-CARES and the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project, all targeted at transforming the agricultural sector.




According to Hon Owotomo, more than twenty thousand bags of fertiliser were recently distributed to over five thousand farmers under the National Agricultural Development Fund intervention, while another two thousand seven hundred farmers benefited from subsidised fertiliser under the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones programme.


Earlier, the State Coordinator of the IFAD Value Chain Development Programme, Mrs. Abiola Sobukola, had explained that the procurement of the tricycles followed a needs assessment to address transportation challenges faced by participating farmer groups.


She disclosed that beneficiaries contributed thirty per cent of the cost of the tricycles, while the Federal Government, Ogun State Government and the International Fund for Agricultural Development jointly funded the remaining seventy per cent.


Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Kamorudeen Shokunbi, Mrs. Abosede Abogunrin and Mr. Moses Olulade appreciated the government and development partners for the support, pledging to use and maintain the tricycles responsibly.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.
