Ogun Government Seeks Greater Investment in Culture at MAPOLY Festival




The Ogun State Government has commended Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, for using its annual Ojude MAPOLY Festival to promote cultural heritage, youth engagement and national unity.

The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Oluwasesan Fagbayi, gave the commendation during the 2026 edition of the festival held at the institution's Ojere campus. 

Hon Fagbayi who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Quudus Yusuff, described the event as one of the fastest-growing cultural initiatives in Nigeria's tertiary education sector.

According to him, the festival provides a platform for preserving tradition while strengthening unity among young people.


 He noted that the colourful display of indigenous attire, music and dance reflected the commitment of Nigerian youths to preserving their cultural identity.

The Commissioner also described Ogun State as a leading destination for culture and tourism, highlighting festivals such as Ojude Oba, Lisabi, Oronna and Remo Day. 


He urged students to remain ambassadors of the state's rich cultural heritage and creative economy.

Hon. Fagbayi reaffirmed the state government's commitment to promoting culture and tourism as tools for economic growth, adding that investments would continue in heritage preservation, tourism development and the creative industry.

He further commended the MAPOLY Governing Council, management, Students' Union Government and the festival organising committee for the successful event, expressing optimism that the Ojude MAPOLY Festival would become a permanent feature on Ogun State's cultural and tourism calendar.

Also speaking, the Oba of Ado and Olofin Adimula Oodua of Aworiland, Oba Olusola Ademowale Lamidi, said the festival has shown that education and culture can thrive together. 


He encouraged students to sustain efforts to preserve and promote Yoruba cultural heritage for future generations.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.
