Ogun Government Unveils New Drive for Industrial Safety Compliance

The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening industrial safety and environmental protection through improved regulation, capacity building and proactive risk management.


Speaking at a training workshop for safety personnel in Abeokuta, the Commissioner for Environment, Dr Ola Oresanya, said the state's rapid industrial growth must be matched with effective safety systems to protect lives, property and the environment.


Dr Oresanya who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Kafayat Lawal disclosed that the government was working to transform the existing Safety Office into a fully-fledged Ogun State Safety Commission to enhance policy implementation, technical oversight, enforcement and collaboration with industry stakeholders.


He also announced plans to commence a comprehensive statewide industrial safety audit programme aimed at identifying safety gaps, improving compliance and encouraging continuous improvement rather than imposing punitive measures.

Dr Oresanya noted that the recent inspections revealed that while many industries have documented safety policies, there remains a gap between established procedures and actual workplace practices.

He urged safety personnel to see themselves as leaders and change agents capable of promoting a culture of prevention, accountability and operational excellence within their organisations.

The Commissioner encouraged the participants to implement practical Safety Improvement Plans after the workshop, stressing that safety should become a key performance indicator alongside productivity and profitability.

 Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Ogun State, Dr. Kafayat Lawal who spoke through  the Director of Environmental Quality Control, Water Regulatory, Enforcement and Advocacy, Mr. Kayode Akinwande, described the workshop as another milestone in the state’s commitment to safer industries and healthier workplaces.

Dr Lawal added that the training formed part of the Ministry’s broader strategic vision for 2026–2028 aimed at strengthening institutional capacity, enhancing regulatory effectiveness and improving industrial resilience.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.
