Ogun SUBEB Renews Commitment to Evidence Action on School Health

The Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining its partnership with Evidence Action Nigeria to improve the health and well-being of pupils in public primary schools across the state.

The Chairman of the Board, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, gave the assurance while receiving a delegation from Evidence Action Nigeria, led by its Deputy Country Director, Dr. Olusola Adeoye, during a courtesy visit to the Board's Secretariat at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Evangelist Ifede who was represented by Permanent Member IV, Rt. Hon. Akeem Balogun,  described the collaboration as impactful, noting that regular school-based deworming campaigns and teacher training programmes implemented by the organisation had contributed significantly to improving the health of thousands of schoolchildren across Ogun State.

He commended Evidence Action for its sustained interventions and assured the organisation of the Board's continued support for existing and future programmes aimed at promoting healthy learning environments.

Speaking during the visit, the Deputy Country Director of Evidence Action Nigeria, Dr. Olusola Adeoye, expressed appreciation to the Ogun State Government for its consistent support since the organisation began operations in Nigeria in 2016.

Dr. Adeoye said the state's commitment had strengthened the confidence of international development partners and donors to invest further in expanding the programme.

Also speaking, Senior Programme Manager, Mrs. Maryann Edeh, disclosed that Ogun State was the first in Nigeria to partner with Evidence Action on large-scale school deworming.

She revealed that more than one million children in the state had benefited from the initiative, while the organisation now operates in ten states, reaching about six million school-age children annually through its "Deworm the World" programme.

Mrs. Edeh added that the organisation also implements nutrition programmes for children and pregnant women, malaria prevention initiatives, and projects that improve access to safe water in collaboration with federal and state governments.

Earlier, the Director of Social Mobilisation at SUBEB, Mr. Abodunrin Akinleye, described Evidence Action as one of the Board's most dependable international partners, applauding its consistency in promoting learners' health and enhancing teachers' capacity to deliver school health interventions.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.
