PDP House of Representatives Candidate Seeks Law to Compel IBEDC to Provide Transformers

Arc. Oladele AbdulQuadri Olaleye, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the House of Representatives representing Abeokuta North, Odeda and Obafemi Owode Federal Constituency, has called for legislation that would compel the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to provide transformers to communities within a stipulated period.


Arc. Olaleye who made the call while featuring on Ijoba Tiwantiwa on Paramount FM Abeokuta, said a law should be enacted to mandate IBEDC to replace or install transformers for communities within two months of a formal request.

 He added that failure by the electricity distribution company to meet the deadline should attract appropriate sanctions.


The PDP candidate condemned the current practice whereby communities are compelled to raise funds to procure transformers on their own due to prolonged delays by the distribution company.


He also described as unfair and unacceptable the policy that requires such communities to sign handover documents transferring ownership of transformers they purchased with their own resources to IBEDC.



According to him, the practice amounts to double hardship on citizens who already pay for electricity services and should not be burdened with providing critical infrastructure that falls within the responsibility of the distribution company.


Arc. Olaleye pledged that, if elected into the House of Representatives in the forthcoming elections, he would sponsor legislation to protect consumers from what he described as exploitative practices in the power sector.



He assured constituents that he would work with other lawmakers to enact consumer-friendly laws that would compel electricity distribution companies to fulfill their obligations while safeguarding the interests of electricity consumers.



The PDP candidate stressed that improving electricity infrastructure through effective legislation would enhance power supply, promote economic growth, and improve the living standards of residents across the federal constituency.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.
