Radio Nigeria's Olusegun Folarin has been re-elected as Secretary of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Ogun State Chapter.

The election took place during the association's delegates' congress at the SWAN Secretariat, Kuto Abeokuta, where Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji was also returned as Chairman for another term.

Speaking after the election, Comrade Ogunsiji called on the Ogun State Government to develop a comprehensive sports masterplan to promote sustainable athlete development and effective talent discovery.

He urged the government to improve maintenance of sports facilities, rehabilitate the abandoned swimming pool and provide a functional practice pitch at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena.

The SWAN Chairman also advocated the restoration of commercial and recreational activities within the stadium complex to boost security, increase internally generated revenue and revive the night economy.

Comrade Ogunsiji further stressed the need for stronger grassroots sports programmes and closer collaboration among government, corporate organisations and other stakeholders to reposition sports development in the state.

Presenting certificates of return to the newly elected executives, the South-West Vice President of SWAN, Ayodeji Ogunsakin, who represented the National President, Isaiah Benjamin, urged the new leadership to prioritise capacity building, particularly in digital journalism and emerging media technologies.

Other elected officers include Taiwo Fabajo as Vice Chairman, Seun Odunlami as Assistant Secretary, Michael Adesanya as Treasurer, Bayo Adegboyega as Welfare Officer and Hassan Yusuf Olatunji as Financial Secretary.
