Secretary-General Advocates Inclusive Education on World Youth Skills Day





The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr Antonio Guterres has called for increased investment in quality education and skills training to enable young people thrive in a rapidly changing world.


In a message to mark the 2026 World Youth Skills Day, Mr Guterres described young people as innovators, leaders and agents of change who are contributing to the development of more inclusive, resilient and sustainable societies.



He noted that global changes driven by digital technologies, climate change, economic uncertainty and inequality had made it essential for young people to acquire new competencies, including digital literacy, artificial intelligence, communication and critical thinking.



The Secretary-General stressed that unlocking the full potential of younger generations requires inclusive and quality education as well as accessible vocational training.


According to him, closing the global skills gap will not only improve employment opportunities for young people but also promote sustainable livelihoods and economic growth.


He urged governments, development partners and other stakeholders to renew their commitment to equipping young people with the knowledge and skills needed to shape a better future for all.


World Youth Skills Day is observed annually on July 15 to promote the importance of equipping young people with relevant skills for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.

  The Crescent Literary Village of Crescent University, Abeokuta, has celebrated the enduring legacies of the institution's late founder, Prince Bola Ajibola, for his remarkable contributions to education, law, arbitration, literature and humanity.
