Team Nigeria Gets Presidential Send-off for Glasgow 2026

President Bola Tinubu has encouraged Team Nigeria to compete with discipline, integrity and excellence at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

President Tinubu made the call during a send-off ceremony at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.


The President who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila,  urged the athletes to be worthy ambassadors of the country by upholding the highest standards of sportsmanship, avoiding doping and protecting Nigeria's image while striving for success.


Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, said the Commission had put measures in place to provide the athletes with the support needed to excel at the Games.


Also speaking, the Director General of the Commission, Chief Bukola Olopade, reminded the contingents that doping and any act capable of bringing Nigeria into disrepute would attract sanctions, including expulsion from the contingent.



The 2026 Commonwealth Games will take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, with Team Nigeria expected to compete in ten sports using a contingent of seventy-four athletes.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.
