APM Stakeholders Seek Economic Reset, Criticise Federal Government Reforms

Stakeholders of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, have rated the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at 35 per cent, describing the Federal Government's economic reforms as policies that have increased hardship for many Nigerians.

The stakeholders made their position known during the unveiling of the party's governorship, senatorial and House of Assembly candidates in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Representing the party's presidential candidate, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Honourable Babatunde Tijani said the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira were implemented without sufficient measures to cushion their effects on vulnerable citizens.

According to him, the country requires a comprehensive reset of its economy, security architecture and social welfare system. He argued that major economic reforms should be accompanied by adequate social intervention programmes to reduce their impact on ordinary Nigerians.

He also expressed concern over the rising cost of fuel, food and other essential commodities, saying many households are struggling to meet their basic needs.

Also speaking, the Ogun State Chairman of the APM, Sanyaolu Abayomi, questioned the Federal Government's claims that the economy was improving, insisting that many Nigerians were yet to experience meaningful relief despite reported improvements in some economic indicators.

Abayomi said the party's 35 per cent assessment reflected what it described as the gap between official economic reports and the realities faced by citizens. He called on the government to introduce temporary relief measures while long-term reforms take effect.

He also urged Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and participate actively in the electoral process, describing the APM as a political alternative committed to improving the welfare of the people.

The party maintained that economic reforms should ultimately translate into improved living standards and called on the Federal Government to ensure that policies are implemented with adequate measures to protect vulnerable citizens.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.
