Ogun Customs Launches Free Eye Care Programme for Officers

The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun I Area Command, has organised a free eye care programme for its officers and men as part of efforts to promote staff welfare and improve operational efficiency.

The initiative, sponsored by the Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Oladapo Afeni, was carried out in partnership with VisionSpring under its See to Be Safe project.

The programme provided comprehensive eye examinations, including visual acuity screening, fundus examination and free prescription glasses for officers diagnosed with vision defects.

Speaking during the exercise, Deputy Comptroller Afeni said good eyesight is essential for effective Customs operations, noting that officers depend on clear vision to carry out surveillance, enforcement, cargo examination and border patrol duties.

He urged personnel to embrace regular eye examinations, stressing that maintaining good vision enhances vigilance, improves response time and contributes to the protection of the nation's borders.

The Team Lead of the See to Be Safe project, Dr. Obioma Uchandu, explained that the initiative is designed to prevent avoidable blindness among Customs officers, especially those serving in border communities, through early detection and prompt treatment.

Some beneficiaries described the programme as timely and impactful, saying it would improve their health, boost morale and enhance their readiness to perform their duties effectively.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.
