Ogun Executive Council Okays Road Rehabilitation, Housing Scheme

The Ogun State Executive Council has approved a new round of infrastructure and development projects aimed at improving governance, transportation, housing and traditional institutions across the state.

The approvals included the construction of four hundred and fifty two-bedroom semi-detached housing units with supporting infrastructure, twenty-eight official quarters for members of the Ogun State House of Assembly, twenty-eight duplexes for sale at Ibara GRA Scheme Two, and the reconstruction of the Ogun State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja.

The Council also approved the rehabilitation and reconstruction of key roads across the three senatorial districts. 

The projects include the Okun-Owa to Ijebu-Ode Road, the Ago-Iwoye–Ijebu-Igbo–Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic Road, Phase One of the Odeda–Olugbo Road, the Ayobo (Mopol Junction) to Lafenwa Junction Road in Ota, and Agbala Road in Iperu.

As part of efforts to strengthen traditional institutions, the Executive Council approved the recognition of the Akoko of Tongeji Island, the Onitafin of Orile Itafin and the Olu of Orile Itori-Odo as recognised chieftaincies. 

It also approved the creation and upgrading of several coronet stools under the Ijebu, Egba and Yewa Traditional Councils.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Mr Kayode Akinmade,  in a statement in Abeokuta said the approvals reflected Governor Dapo Abiodun's commitment to sustainable infrastructure development, urban renewal, affordable housing and the preservation of Ogun State's cultural heritage.

He added that the projects will improve road connectivity, expand access to housing, preserve public assets, strengthen governance and stimulate economic growth across the state.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.
