Ogun SUBEB Boss Emerges Grand Ambassador of APROCON

The Ogun State Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, has been honoured as Grand Ambassador of the Association of Professional Counsellors of Nigeria, APROCON, Ogun State Chapter.


The conferment, which took place at the SUBEB Board Conference Room in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, was in recognition of the Chairman's leadership and support for professional counselling and the development of basic education in the state.


Receiving the honour, Evangelist Ifede stressed the importance of knowledge to the counselling profession, urging counsellors to continually improve themselves through reading and other means of acquiring knowledge.


He encouraged counsellors to cultivate the habit of reading storybooks, saying this would broaden their knowledge and enhance their ability to impact positively on others.


The SUBEB Chairman also called for stronger moral guidance in public primary schools, expressing concern over the increasing level of moral decadence in society.


He attributed part of the challenge to inadequate parental guidance and urged parents, teachers and members of the community to maintain mutual respect in the interest of the children.


Evangelist Ifede assured the association of his continued support and expressed appreciation for the recognition, promising to do more towards the development of education and humanity.


Also speaking, Permanent Member Four of SUBEB, Right Honourable Akeem Balogun, commended APROCON for identifying with the Board and its activities.

He urged the association to maintain its professional standards and uniqueness, noting that stronger collaboration between both organisations would help move basic education in Ogun State in the right direction.

Earlier, the Director of Administration and Supplies at SUBEB, Mr Femi Fatade, highlighted the importance of guidance and counselling in promoting academic success, emotional well-being and the overall development of pupils.

In her remarks, the Ogun State Chairperson of APROCON and retired lecturer at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Dr Emily Adeniji, said the visit was to recognise the achievements of the SUBEB Chairman and strengthen collaboration between the association and the Board.

She assured SUBEB of APROCON's readiness to support programmes where its professional expertise could add value, while urging the Chairman to continue supporting professional counsellors.

Also, a Fellow of APROCON and retired Principal-General in Remo Division, Dr Olubunmi Womiloju, described the conferment as a new milestone in the counselling profession.

She said the national body was particularly interested in making Ogun State the first state to confer the Grand Ambassadorial title.

Dr Womiloju called for greater collaboration between SUBEB and APROCON, stressing that early counselling of pupils could help prevent social vices and promote a healthier learning environment.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.
