Ogun SUBEB, UBEC Launch Agricultural Science Exhibition in Schools

The Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, has launched a Farm Produce and Agricultural Science Exhibition as part of the Agricultural Education Training Programme aimed at strengthening practical agricultural education in public basic schools.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony held at Imo Methodist Nursery and Primary School, Oke-Yeke, Abeokuta, the Chairman of Ogun SUBEB, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, said the initiative was designed to revive the practical component of Agricultural Science in the basic education curriculum.

He explained that the programme was to equip pupils with entrepreneurial and lifelong skills, encourage self-employment, and promote the dignity of labour among young learners.

Evangelist Ifede disclosed that about eighty public primary and junior secondary schools across the state have benefited from the programme. 




He said the agricultural projects include crop production, animal husbandry, fisheries, egg production, broiler rearing, as well as plantain and banana cultivation.

According to him, the Board provided funds for the procurement of farm implements and improved seeds, while experts from the Ogun State Agricultural Development Programme trained teachers and pupils on modern climate-smart farming techniques.

In goodwill messages, the UBEC representative, Mrs. Adeola Adegboyega, alongside Permanent Member Two, Hon. Isiaka Aderounmu, and Permanent Member Three, Hon. Abiodun Ajayi, described the initiative as a major step towards boosting food production and encouraging young people to consider agriculture as a viable career.

Earlier, the Director of Administration and Supplies at SUBEB, Mr. Femi Fatade, had said that the programme demonstrated the Board's commitment to practical, skills-based education through innovation and modern agricultural practices.

Also speaking, the Project Manager of the Ogun State Agricultural Development Programme, Mrs. Bukonla Sobukonla, represented by Mrs. Ayodeji Adediran, assured stakeholders of the agency's continued support through regular practical agricultural training.

The Chairman of the School-Based Management Committee, Alhaji Juwon Labode, and the Parent Club Chairman, Reverend Segun Folorunso, commended SUBEB and UBEC for the initiative, expressing confidence that schools would become centres for sustainable agricultural production.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.
