OGWAMA Seals Dahua Paper Company Over Illegal Dumping, Open Burning

 





The Ogun State Waste Management Authority, OGWAMA, has sealed Dahua Paper Company Limited at Owiwi Village, near Obada-Oko in Abeokuta, for operating an illegal dumpsite and engaging in open burning of waste.


The company was sealed for allegedly contravening provisions of the Ogun State Environmental and Public Health Law 2006 and Section 2B(a) of the OGWAMA Law 2020, which prohibit the indiscriminate disposal and open burning of waste.


Leading the enforcement operation, the Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor and Managing Director of OGWAMA, Honourable Farouk Akintunde, said the action followed months of monitoring and intelligence gathering by the Authority.


According to him, the company was caught operating an illegal dumpsite opposite its factory, where its waste was allegedly dumped and burnt.





Mr. Akintunde said OGWAMA officials also discovered that waste from the site was being pushed towards a river, posing a serious threat to water bodies and underground water in the area.


He expressed concern that the river serves nearby communities, warning that continued pollution could endanger the health of residents.


The OGWAMA Managing Director disclosed that two trucks allegedly used by the company to convey waste to the illegal dumpsite were found at the location and have been confiscated.
He said Dahua Paper Company would remain sealed and would face the full weight of the law.




Mr. Akintunde also warned individuals and companies operating illegal dumpsites or engaging in open burning of waste to desist from the practice and register with OGWAMA for proper waste disposal.


He stressed that the Authority would continue its enforcement activities to protect the environment and safeguard public health across the state.

Ogun Opens Registration for 2027 Hajj Exercise

Aina Obasanjo  The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, calling on intending pilgrims to begin preparations for the pilgrimage. Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Taiwo Ajibola, made the announcement while speaking with journalists at the Board's office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.  Alhaji Ajibola said prospective pilgrims are required to make an initial deposit of eight million naira, pending the official Hajj fare to be announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He urged interested applicants to complete their payments early to secure a place for the pilgrimage, noting that the registration exercise is expected to close on or before September 2026. Alhaji Ajibola advised intending pilgrims to visit the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the New Secretariat, Block B, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, or contact the Board through its official telephone lines for further enquiries.
