The Ogun State Government says it will strengthen support for the preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage of Imeko town.

Governor Dapo Abiodun stated this in a message to the grand finale of the 2026 Imeko Agbinrekoti Festival.

Governor Abiodun who was represented by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi described the festival as a celebration of the history, traditions and cultural identity of the people of Imeko, announced that the annual event would be included in the cultural festival calendar of the State Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

He said cultural festivals such as Agbinrekoti were important platforms for preserving indigenous traditions, promoting community unity and showcasing the tourism potential of communities across Ogun State.

Governor Abiodun said the State Government recognised the contribution of festivals to cultural tourism, the local economy and the creative industry.

He explained that government was also creating an enabling environment for private-sector participation through Public-Private Partnerships to develop tourism sites and transform the State's cultural, historical and natural assets into sustainable tourism products.

The Governor commended the Central Planning Committee, individuals and organisations for their contributions towards sustaining the festival and urged the people of Imeko to continue preserving their heritage and promoting their culture.

Also speaking, the member representing Imeko-Afon/Yewa North Federal Constituency, Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka called for stronger collaboration between government and the people to accelerate development in the area.

Hon. Isiaka said while government had a responsibility to provide infrastructure and social services, the community also had an important role to play in driving development and improving the educational prospects of children.

Earlier, the Onimeko of Imeko Kingdom, Oba Benjamin Alabi Olanite had appreciated indigenes of the community both at home and in the diaspora, for their contributions to the development of Imeko.

The Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Otunba Anthony Ajibode noted that the theme of the festival, “Galvanizing Development for Our Town,” reflected the community's determination to translate its aspirations into practical development initiatives.

Otunba Ajibode said the festival also provided an opportunity for the people to reflect on their heritage, strengthen unity and renew their commitment to the sustainable development of Imeko.
