Crescent University Abeokuta has secured the approval of the National Universities Commission, NUC, to commence a Bachelor of Science degree programme in Artificial Intelligence.

The programme is expected to commence from the 2026/2027 academic session.

The approval was conveyed in a letter dated September 11, 2026, addressed to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Ibraheem Gbajabiamila, and signed by the Director of Academic Planning of the NUC, Abubakar M. Girei, on behalf of the Executive Secretary.

The approval followed a resource verification exercise conducted earlier in the year by a panel of experts, which assessed the human and material resources available for the programme.

Speaking on the development, the Vice Chancellor described the approval as a significant milestone in the university's academic development.

Professor Gbajabiamila said the approval further complements the institution's record of 100 percent accreditation scores across its programmes in the sciences, technology, arts and social sciences.

He also highlighted the university's knowledge laboratories and computer-based centre, describing them as facilities that provide a conducive environment for teaching and learning.

The Vice Chancellor noted that the increasing influence of Artificial Intelligence across various sectors of the economy makes the new programme relevant to the needs of students and the modern workforce.

He said the programme would provide students with opportunities to acquire advanced knowledge and skills in Artificial Intelligence and related areas.

The university says the new programme is part of its broader commitment to producing graduates equipped with relevant skills for the demands of the contemporary economy.

The commencement of the BSc Artificial Intelligence programme is expected to further expand Crescent University's academic portfolio and reinforce its commitment to academic and moral excellence.
