Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has praised President Bola Tinubu for fulfilling his promise of financial rewards to the team following its triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket.

The players and officials have received the outstanding financial incentives in their respective bank accounts.

The National Sports Commission says the payment was facilitated after its Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, met with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Professor Taiwo Oyedele to finalise the process.

The Commission says D’Tigress and the Super Falcons received their promised financial rewards within three days of the conclusion of the process.

D’Tigress captain, Amy Okonkwo, described President Tinubu as a sports-loving President who has demonstrated commitment to the welfare of Nigerian athletes.

She thanked the President, the First Lady, the National Sports Commission and the Nigeria Basketball Federation for their support.

D’Tigress are the reigning African champions, having won the Women’s AfroBasket title five consecutive times.

Nigeria defeated Mali 78-64 in the 2025 final in Abidjan to clinch its seventh title and become the first team to win five successive Women’s AfroBasket championships.
