The Ogun State Ministry of Culture and Tourism has trained its Monitoring and Evaluation officers and departmental representatives on effective budget and project management.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Quudus Yusuff said the exercise was aimed at addressing gaps in the understanding and application of the Medium-Term Sector Strategy, MTSS, document.
Dr. Yusuff explained that the training would equip the officers with the knowledge required to develop robust MTSS documents for their departments and promote a more focused and result-oriented budgeting process.
Speaking on the theme of the training, the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation in the Ministry of Budget and Planning, Mrs. Baliqis Olorunisola, said Ogun State had continued to strengthen its M&E framework to validate government spending and assess the impact of programmes and projects.
Mrs. Olorunisola stressed that monitoring and evaluation should not be seen as a punitive exercise, but as a tool for identifying strengths, addressing gaps and improving performance.
She emphasised the importance of reliable and verifiable data in determining whether government programmes and projects are achieving their intended results, noting that such data was essential for effective decision-making and resource allocation.
Mrs Olorunisola also called for stronger collaboration among departments and continuous feedback to improve programmes and achieve measurable outcomes.
She urged the officers to develop practical activities, initiatives and partnerships that would translate the Ministry’s vision into tangible results in tourism development and cultural preservation.
Mrs. Olorunisola said such efforts would further position Ogun State as a destination of national and international significance in culture and tourism.
Earlier, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mrs. Olubukola Samuel commended the Ministry for organising the training adding that the exercise would enhance the capacity of the M&E officers and improve their effectiveness in carrying out their responsibilities.
According to Information and Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Kofoworola Idowu, the training, held at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, was designed to strengthen the officers’ capacity for effective project implementation, monitoring and reporting.
